Our Design Philosophy

Every Piece Begins With a Moment

At Rare Bird Collection, every design begins with a moment.

Our pieces are inspired by experiences gathered from everyday life
— a walk through lush parks and woodlands,
a visit to a museum, the lines of a historic façade,
or the wonder found in a childhood story.
Often ordinary at first glance, these experiences
leave an impression that lingers.

Through photography, collected imagery, sketches, and personal observations,
these moments are translated into original prints and designs
to be worn, gifted, and lived with.

From Inspiration to Form

Within our small and intimate design studio, collections begin quietly.

Ideas gathered from daily life are curated into moodboards alongside photographs, colour references, sketches, and fragments of inspiration collected over time. Nearby sits a well-loved sketchbook — a constant companion throughout the creative process. Its pages are filled with rough drawings, notes, evolving patterns, and ideas waiting to take shape.

From Sketchbook to Piece

It is here that a captured moment first begins its transformation.

Through sketching, refinement, and exploration, concepts gradually emerge. Colours are studied, forms are adjusted, and details are thoughtfully considered. Beyond aesthetics, we think about the story being told, the emotions it evokes, and how the piece will be experienced when worn.

What begins as an observation or fleeting impression eventually finds its way from sketchbook page to wearable form — thoughtfully designed to be lived with and enjoyed.

Designed With Intention

When selecting materials and developing each piece, we carefully consider how it feels, moves, and wears throughout the day. Proportion, weight, balance, comfort, and versatility all play an important role in the design process.

Colours, patterns, and symbolic details are chosen with purpose, while every component — from clasps and chains to ear posts, jump rings, and settings
— is selected with both aesthetics and wearability in mind.

Wearability & Versatility

We pay close attention to achieving a balance between visual presence and everyday comfort. Each design is thoughtfully developed to offer character and distinction while remaining enjoyable to wear.

Material choices are approached with the same care — seeking a thoughtful balance between quality, durability, and accessibility, so that meaningful design can be experienced and enjoyed rather than admired from afar.
