Rare Bird Collection

OUR Craftsmanship

How Our Jewelry Is Made

From the first sketch to the final polish, every Rare Bird Collection piece is created through a process that values artistry, detail, and time — because meaningful pieces are rarely rushed.

The Design Process
01

The Design Process

Every Rare Bird Collection piece begins as a story, memory, or detail observed in everyday life. From heritage motifs and architectural forms to fleeting moments collected through travel, photography, and sketches, ideas are first translated into moodboards, drawings,
and print explorations.

Rather than designing around trends, we design with intention — creating pieces that carry personality, emotion, and meaning. Each collection goes through rounds of refinement before a final direction is chosen for development.

Creating the CADs
02

Creating the CADs

Once a design is finalised, detailed technical drawings and specifications are prepared. Every proportion, setting, dimension, and structural detail is carefully considered to ensure the piece is both visually striking and comfortable to wear.

Our designs are then transformed into 3D CADs to visualise the jewellery in form and scale before production begins. This stage allows us to refine the balance, movement, and engineering of each piece — particularly important for our signature reversible designs, bold sculptural frames,
and enamel components.

Multiple rounds of revisions are often carried out before a design
proceeds to production.

Making the Mould
03

Making the Mould

After the CAD is approved, a master mould is created. This allows the original design to be reproduced accurately while preserving the integrity of every detail.

As many of our designs involve layered construction, enamel components, and intricate assembly work, achieving the right mould structure is essential to the final outcome.

The Wax Tree
04

The Wax Tree

Wax versions of the jewellery are produced from the mould and assembled onto a wax tree in preparation for casting.

This traditional jewellery-making technique allows multiple components to be cast together while maintaining consistency across each batch.

Casting and Refining
05

Casting & Refining the Pieces

At this stage, the jewellery is cast in metal such as quality brass, silver, or gold depending on the design requirements of the piece.

Once cast, every component is individually refined by hand. Excess metal is carefully removed before the surfaces are filed, polished, and prepared for the next
stages of production.

Unlike mass-produced fast fashion accessories, our production process involves smaller artisan-led batches that take time to complete — allowing greater attention to finishing, detailing, and construction.

Assembling and Setting
06

Assembling & Setting

This is where the individual elements of the design begin coming together. Enamel components are painted and cured, stones are set, and various metal parts are assembled by hand to form the final piece.

As many of our pieces incorporate artisan enamel work and multi-part construction, this stage requires precision, patience, and multiple rounds of checking. Slight variations may naturally occur from piece to piece — a reflection of the handcrafted nature of the process.

This is where the story of the piece begins to come alive.

Quality Plating
07

Quality Plating

Once assembled, the jewellery undergoes a carefully managed plating process to enhance the finish and overall brilliance of the piece.

Rather than prioritising speed, our plating process focuses on preparation, finishing quality, and consistency across each batch. Every piece is properly cleaned, polished, and prepared before plating to achieve a refined final appearance that complements the enamel work and detailing of the design.

We do not believe in overpromising unrealistic permanence, but we believe thoughtful craftsmanship, quality processes, and proper care all
contribute to how a piece wears
beautifully over time.

Quality Control
08

Quality Control

Before reaching you, every piece undergoes a final quality control process. This includes checks on finishing, assembly, stone setting, enamel application, wearability, and overall comfort.

We believe jewellery should not only look beautiful, but feel considered in the way it sits, moves, and becomes part of everyday life.

From the first sketch to the final polish, each Rare Bird Collection piece is created through a process that values artistry, detail, and time — because meaningful pieces are rarely rushed.
